Supporting Communication for Children with CVI Through AAC
Join speech-language pathologists and AAC specialists Haley Dayel, MS, CCC-SLP, CBIS and Lindsay Cheng, MS, CCC-SLP for a 1-hour workshop focused on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) for children with cortical vision impairment (CVI).
Topics will include AAC display design for children with low vision or CVI, including symbol selection, use of color, visual complexity, and page layout. The session will also explore the role of auditory feedback, tactile supports, scanning, and other access features that may support more successful AAC use. The workshop will emphasize collaborative decision-making among families, SLPs, vision specialists, educators, and other providers.
