Social Robots: Humanized Robots That Help Us
January 18 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm| Free
Social robots interact with people in an interpersonal way by engaging and supporting collaborative social and emotive behavior. In spite of the inherent dangers posed by increasing automation and artificial intelligence, there are real advantages to cooperative interaction with robots. After a brief review of the development of robotics, we will look at new applications at home (weight loss, appliance management), in schools (facilitating learning, fostering curiosity) and in hospitals (treating autism). We’ll end by asking, “What’s coming next?” Can you imagine a robotic psychotherapist?
This workshop is facilitated Larry Solomon, PhD, an Oasis presentater and is FREE for Braille Institute students, volunteers and Library subscribers. All others should contact San Diego Oasis by phone at (619) 881-6262 or email, sandiegooasis.org
