Welcome to the Intro to Adaptive Cooking online, self-study mini-course! As you complete each lesson, you will learn a variety of easy-to-make recipes. Each of these recipes are tested and presented by an experienced Independent Living Skills Instructor, and these are tried-and-true recipes beloved by Braille Institute students.
If you are brand new to vision loss and have not yet learned adaptive techniques for working in the kitchen, you may not yet be ready for this course. Intro to Adaptive Cooking assumes students have a foundational understanding of how to safely use kitchen tools and equipment, such as the oven and stovetop, the microwave, kitchen knives, measuring cups and spoons, etc. If you do not yet feel comfortable with these skills, we highly encourage you first take one of our Independent Living Skills courses.
Intro to Adaptive Cooking is designed for those living with vision loss to regain confidence in the kitchen by learning to cook delicious recipes that are both nourishing and delicious. Tap into your senses of smell and taste as you learn to prepare tasty main dishes, sides, and desserts. Feel free to visit and revisit these lessons as often as needed, until you feel you have a strong understanding of the skills demonstrated.
