Braille Literacy Resources

The Braille Challenge is designed to set a high standard of achievement for braille students. Like any discipline, braille proficiency takes study and practice. If you are looking for more ways to challenge yourself throughout the year, check out this list of resources that may help you hone your braille skills.

Parent/Guardian Permission Form

Hard copy of the parent/guardian permission forms will be sent with the requested contests to the teachers who are administering individual contests in January. You may also download and print out the form by clicking on the link provided on this page. A parent/guardian PERMISSION FORM must be SIGNED by a parent or guardian and attached to the student's completed contest when they are returned by mail to Braille Institute.

Regional Contest Registration Info for Hosting Agencies

Completing the Registration Log (MS Word document) - All students taking the Challenge contests must be listed in the log, with all contact information completed. You may download and print out this form by clicking on the link provided on this page. Please e-mail your completed log to Christine Pak at cgpak@brailleinstitute.org no later than one working day following your event.

Handbook and Forms

Agencies who host a regional Braille Challenge are given a handbook with detailed instructions on how to plan their own event. You may download the PDF or Microsoft Word file of the Handbook and other related forms by clicking on the links provided on this page. All artwork, forms and the contests themselves are provided by Braille Institute at no charge. Any agency interested in hosting a Regional Event in their area in 2010 should contact Christine Pak at 1-800-BRAILLE (272-4553), Ext. 1321.

Registration Period: November 2 - December 18, 2009
Preliminary Contest Period: January - March 12, 2010
"Teacher of the Year" Award Nomination: Deadline March 26, 2010
Notification of Contest Results: May 3, 2010
The Braille Challenge Finals: June 25-26, 2010
