Volunteering from Home or in Your Community

If you do not live near one of our Regional Centers, there may still be ways for you to volunteer at Braille Institute. We do have a limited number of opportunities that a person can do at home or in their community.

The following is a list of home opportunities that we currently have available:

Talking-Book Machine Repair

If you enjoy tinkering with simple electronics, you will want to help us provide uninterrupted talking-book services to our nearly 34,000 Library patrons across Southern California. The playback machines they use often have to be repaired and cleaned. After training at our center, the machines and parts are sent to you, and you can work at your own pace from home.

Community Outreach

Braille Institute offers Community Outreach classes to people who live too far from our Regional Centers. We may offer classes at a senior or community center in your neighborhood, and there are always opportunities to help.

If you live in Southern California, and are interested in volunteering at home, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at the Regional Center at which you would like to volunteer.
