| Become one of the "Stars Behind the Scenes" that makes our work possible! |
The dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteers make the work we do possible.
At Braile Institute the ratio of volunteers to employees is 14 to 1, contributing greatly to our ability to serve an ever-growing number
of people with visual impairments. |

Why volunteer? |
|
Volunteering helps us bring hope to hundreds of lives.
In return, we show our appreciation in a number of ways, including recognition,
service awards and an annual appreciation event. We also offer training. |
|
|
Who are our volunteers? |
| Most of our volunteers wish to give back to
the community. Others say they want an opportunity to learn or share a skill.
Our volunteers come from every walk of life, but all have one thing in common:
they are looking for a place where they can make a difference. Volunteers must
be at least 16 years of age. |
|
|
What times can volunteers work? |
|
Our five centers are open Monday through
Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (PST). We also occasionally have evening opportunities and
special events on weekends. Volunteer hours are typically 9:30 am to 3:00 am
We ask that our volunteers serve a minimum of two hours per week. |
|
|
Do I need any experience? |
|
Previous experience in working with people who are visually impaired is not required;
simply a willingness to get involved! Expertise in the areas that we list in our
volunteer opportunities section is helpful but not essential. We work to match
every volunteer's abilities and interests with the needs of those we serve. |

How do I sign up to be a volunteer? |
Simply click on the list of Volunteer Opportunities at the Regional Center that you would like to volunteer for and then
select an opportunity that interests you. It's that easy!
If you do not find an opportunity of interest, you can also contact
the Volunteer Coordinator at your local Regional Center by phone. They may be able to find
another opportunity that is better suited to your interests. |
