| What is Youth and Career Services? | |||
| Youth and Career Services is a program designed for blind and visually impaired children, teens and young adults, ages 6 to 30, to foster confidence, self-esteem and independence leading to higher education and/or vocational training and employment. There are specific programs for children (ages 6-12), teens (ages 13-18) and young adults (ages 19-30). | |||
| What does the program offer? | |||
| The emphasis is on developing skills in daily living, socialization and academics for young people ages 6 to 18 in preparation for employment, in collaboration with parents and teachers. Participants are provided with life experiences and skills to form a foundation for independent living as an adult. Self-confidence is stimulated through participation in such physical activities as rock-climbing, surfing, white-water rafting, choral groups and more. Young adults, ages 19 to 30, may participate in job readiness and preparation, vocational assessment and job referrals. An Access Technology Subsidy offers an equipment loan program to support braille literacy and academic performance for participants. | |||
