What
is Child Development Services?
Child
Development Services is a home-based early intervention program to instruct families
in how to care for and raise children who are blind and visually impaired. Trained
staff work with parents, as well as family, medical and educational professionals,
to respond to the needs of blind infants and toddlers in the areas of motor skills,
socialization, cognition and language. Older children are placed in community
preschools under supervision by Institute staff to foster physical and emotional
growth and development. A toy-lending program is also available to enhance the
use of the child's remaining sight and other senses.
