Charitable Gift Annuities
An annuity is a life income plan that pays the same dollar amount every year. The minimum gift that can be made is $10,000.

Making a charitable gift annuity involves irrevocably transferring money or securities to Braille Institute. In exchange, we pay you an annual fixed income for life, according to the annuity rate for your age at the time of the gift. You also can provide for a spouse or other survivor (the rate is slightly lower if you incorporate a two-life annuity). Your transfer, then, is part gift and part investment in an annuity.
Here is an example of how a charitable gift annuity works. Ann, 75, transfers $10,000 to Braille Institute for a gift annuity. She will receive a guaranteed annual income of $790 ($10,000 x 7.9%), the rate for a person who is 75 at the time the gift was made).
Some benefits of a charitable gift annuity include the following:
A large portion of each annuity payment is tax-free.

For an estate otherwise subject to tax, substantial estate taxes can be saved.

Payment is guaranteed for life without worries or responsibility.

A charitable deduction is allowed.

Following are the annuity rates for one recipient:
Age 60 is 5.7%
Age 65 is 6.0%
Age 70 is 6.5%
Age 75 is 7.1%
Age 80 is 8.0%
Age 85 is 9.5%
Age 90 plus is 11.3%

Deferred Payment Gift Annuities
If you have sufficient income from current employment or other sources and would like to give a charitable gift now, but are worried about having enough income when you retire, consider a deferred payment gift annuity. You make a charitable gift to Braille Institute now before you retire and we start paying you a guaranteed income after retirement. The annuity rate depends on your age at the time of the gift and at what age you want the payments to start. A deferred gift annuity allows you to receive a charitable tax deduction now while building income for the future.
Here is an example of how a deferred payment gift annuity works. Morgan, 45, transfers $10,000 to Braille Institute with payments to start at age 65. He will receive a guaranteed annual income of $1,920 ($10,000 X 19.2%).
Some additional benefits of a deferred payment gift annuity include the following:
A good portion of each guaranteed payment will be tax-free.

You can rid yourself of management and investment concerns.

For an estate otherwise subject to tax, substantial estate taxes can be saved.

You also can provide for a spouse or other survivor.
