Giving Through Your Employer
Many supporters of Braille Institute donate through payroll deductions or through their employer's matching gift program.

How do I donate through payroll deductions?
Many private companies run their own workplace giving campaigns, or partner with outside federations such as United Way or America's Charities, to provide their employees with the opportunity to donate to their favorite charities through automatic payroll deductions.

Federal, state and municipal employees are able to access this opportunity through the campaigns run by their particular agency such as the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) for federal employees.

If you are not sure if your employer offers this type of program please check with your Human Resources department.
How do I designate Braille Institute as one of my charities of choice for payroll deductions?
Look for Braille Institute of America, Inc. on the designation form and simply check it off. If Braille Institute is not listed then almost all campaigns permit you to do a "direct designation." For direct designations the Braille Institute's name is Braille Institute of America, Inc. and our federal tax identification number is 95-1641426. If you do not see a direct designation section on the form, please ask your employer how to do this.
What is an Employer Matching Gift Program?
An Employer Matching Gift program enables corporations and their employees to collaborate in their charitable giving. An increasing number of corporations or corporate foundations are providing Matching Gift programs for their employees, directors, retirees, spouses/domestic partners and selected agents who meet performance qualification criteria.
What are the benefits of an Employer Matching Gift Program?
Your charitable gift:

Instantly doubles in value!

Encourages your employer to give to a cause that touches you.

Helps Braille Institute to continue each year to provide free programs and services to thousands of children and adults who are blind or visually impaired throughout Southern California.
How does it work?

The employee selects a charity of their choice, within the corporation's giving guidelines, completes one part of their employer's application form and submits the form with a donation to the charity. Once the donation is received, the charity completes the second part of the application and returns it to the corporation. Within a period of three months to one year, upon approval, the corporation will match or double match the employee's gift.

How do I obtain an application form?

Each corporation or corporate foundation has specific qualifications for eligible charities. To find out more about your employer's Matching Gift program, ask your Human Resources personnel for a Matching Gift Program application form and the company's guidelines for participation.
